In the vicinity of the Giżycka Gate there is a periscope post from 1913 (a visible opening). Inside the post you will find what’s left of the base of the periscope , iron ladders and a door. From there you will see an infantry shelter (1890 -1893), one of five similar shelters scattered around the fortress, dedicated to the keep’s crew. It consists of five rooms. After 1907, some of the doors and windows were bricked up and a new ventilation system was installed in order for the building to work as both a shelter and a warehouse. The view from the periscope post stretches out over two posterns of the Giżycko Gate, the U-shaped caponier and the dry moat. You can also see some of the buildings of Giżycko emerging from among the trees.
